Scope and Content

Deeds and documents, 1572-1868, relating to Crafnant and Gerddi Bluog estates of the families of Owen of Crafnant and Price of Gerddi Bluog, mainly in Merionethshire.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Crafnant and Gerddi Bluog estate was owned by the poet Edmund Prys (1544-1623), archdeacon of Merioneth. The estate remained in the hands of the Price family until the death of Morgan Price when it was inherited by his daughter Jane. She had married, in 1732, with Griffith Williams of Islaw'r Ffordd, Merioneth. Their heir was Robert Price who married Dorothy Roberts of Golfachwen in 1765. It appears that Crafnant came into the possession of the Owen family from 1765 at the latest. In 1868 it was owned by a John ap Rhydderch Owen. How the two estates came together is currently unknown.
