Records of the Aberdare Burial Board, 1857-1903, consisting of: minutes of the Burial Board, 3 July 1857-February 1876; minutes of the Burial Board, 1 March 1876-January 1893; and minutes of the Burial Board, 2 February 1893-March 1903.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Aberdare Burial Board (Glamorgan) was set up in 1857, by the Aberdare parish vestry, Glamorgan, under the Burial Act 1853. Land on Hirwaun Common, south of Hirwaun, was purchased for a cemetery which opened in 1860, and was extended in 1906. The Burial Board was taken over in 1903, by Aberdare Urban District Council under section 62 of the Local Government Act 1894.
