THEATR CLWYD RECORDS

The collection includes records of Theatr Clwyd; Theatr Clwyd Company; Clwyd Youth Theatre; Clwyd Opera; Oriel Gallery; and Dance Companies. Records include promotional material such as leaflets and posters; production and associated files; administrative files; and applications for auditions.

Theatr Clwyd is part of a 'Centre for the Arts' which was planned and developed by Flintshire County Council from 1967 onwards. The theatre was built in 1969 and has since developed into an arts centre housing a theatre, gallery, and film theatre. It has its own professional theatre company whose work is also complemented by a range of visiting performance activity. The theatre provides a range of outreach activities serving schools and communities in Flintshire.

The name of the theatre was changed to Clwyd Theatr Cymru in 1998 to reflect its national identity, following changes brought about by the Local Government re-organisation in Wales. A full history of the theatre can be found on its own web-site: www.clwyd-theatr-cymru.co.uk

Theatr Clwyd was established by Flintshire County Council and then became part of the Chief Executive's Department of Clwyd County Council in 1974. In 1996, it returned to the governance of Flintshire County Council under Local Government re-organisation.

The collection contains administrative files; correspondence; promotional material such as leaflets, events diaries and posters; production and associated files relating to individual shows; and applications for auditions from actors hoping to appear at the theatre.
