Scope and Content

The origins of the church of St Mary, Bayswater lay in a Nissen hut constructed in 1934 for the vicar of Forest Hill to conduct services in for the parishioners of the new housing estate of Sandhills. In 1948, following the completion of the nearby Barton housing estate, a further hut, which had formerly been used by the foreman of the works, was purchased by the Society of King Charles Martyr to act as a place of worship. The Barton hut was then presented to the church of St Andrew, Headington. The Conventional District of Bayswater was established in 1954 to serve both housing estates, the church of St Mary was consecrated in 1958, and full parish status was granted in 1983.

The current collection was deposited with Oxfordshire Record Office in July 2004 under the accession number 5301. The collection was catalogued in August 2004 by Hannah Jones.
