Scope and Content

South Hinksey is located about two miles immediately south of central Oxford. Originally part of the Berkshire archdeaconry, it was a chapelry of Cumnor until 1723, and was moved into the Oxford archdeaconry in 1915.

South Hinksey has retained close ties with the neighbouring parish of New Hinksey, and in some cases the records of the two parishes have been mixed. In particular, the two parishes share a baptism register between 1913 and 1932 (PAR352/1/R2/2).

This collection was originally deposited with Bodleian Library, until being transferred to Oxfordshire Record Office in the mid 1980s. The collection has since been augmented with accessions 5372 (March 2005) and 5584 (October 2006). The collection was recatalogued in December 2006 by Hannah Jones.
