J.W. Froom lived at 29 Kingsland Crescent, Barry, where these papers were found by the current owner.

Mr Froom served as a sergeant in the Labour Corps during the First World War. He then became an active member of the Old Contemptible Association (Wales and Monmouthshire Area). He was also a member of the Barry and District Amateur Gardener's Association, winning prizes for his plants and produce.
