Papers of the Trescawen Estate

Deeds, 1685 - 1920, relating chiefly to the Trescawen Estate, including properties in the parishes of Amlwch, Llanddyfnan, Llandyfrydog, Llaneilian, Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf, Llanfihangel Tre'r - beirdd, Llangwyllog and Penrhosllugwy, Anglesey, and estate administration, family and legal papers, mainly correspondence, 1807 - 1914.

William Pritchard of Trescawen and Llaneilian, Anglesey, the son of Richard Thomas (d. 1722) of Trevor, Llansadwrn, is the first to be described as of Trescawen, in the parish of Llangwyllog. He was succeeded by his son William Pritchard (d. c. 1800), sheriff of Anglesey in 1786, who was succeeded by his son Henry Pritchard (c.1799-1881). His three eldest sons pre-deceased him without issue and he was succeeded by his fourth son, George Pritchard (1843-1893), sheriff of Anglesey in 1879. He took the additional name of Rayner in 1871 on his marriage to Sarah Mary Brady-Rayner, daughter of John Brady, MP for Ely, Cambridgeshire. His eldest surviving son, John Henry Pritchard-Rayner, succeeded him.

Arranged into the following: title deeds; Parys Mine; estate administration; family and personal; photographs; county court; and legal, with the title deeds arranged by parish. Some of the title deeds were arranged into bundles by J. S. Laurie and Co., but there were obvious omissions and additions and this arrangement was therefore abandoned.
