The collection comprises of some of Nias naval certificates. The second part of the collection covers a letter written during the British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition, 1821-1823 (leader William Edward Parry). The British Naval North West Passage Expedition, 1821-1823 (leader William Edward Parry) was to sail along the Foxe Basin. The expedition vessels HMS Fury (Parry) and HMS Hecla (George Lyon) were the first to sail through Frozen Strait confirming the existence of Repulse Bay. The ships over wintered off southeast Melville Peninsula were they had regular contact with local Eskimo. Overland journeys discovered the southernmost route for the Northwest Passage but found that it was impassable for sailing ships. After a second winter the expedition sailed for home in 1823 the last to attempt a passage through Hudson Bay.
