Papers from the Bulawayo Little Theatre, [1948-1958], the Alpha African Evening School and the Inter-racial Society of Bulawayo, 1947-1955.
The items from the Little Theatre include a collection of its programmes and photographs of various productions, as well as correspondence with Alan Paton, Garfield Todd, Dame Sybil Thorndike and Sir Godfrey Huggins. The Alpha School newsletter of 1957 contains essays by its students. The Bulawayo Inter-racial Society reports mention Joshua Nkomo as among its members. A file of press cuttings, and some numbers of The African Home News (Bulawayo) describe the issues surrounding Mrs Coleman's nomination to Parliament.

Mrs Gwen Coleman was a leading figure in the Bulawayo Little Theatre, which she helped establish and administer. She was later the Principal of the Alpha African Evening School, and a member and chair of the Inter-racial Society of Bulawayo. She was its chair until 1953/4. In 1955 she was nominated by African voters in Bulawayo to stand as a specially elected member for African interests in the Federal Parliament. She resided in England in her later years.
