Scope and Content

Banbury is a large parish in north Oxfordshire. In addition to the traditional records found in a parish collection, the Banbury collection also contains a large number of administrative papers for the building of a new church in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries (see PAR21/18), including minutes of the trustees, financial records and plans.

This collection was originally held by the Bodleian Library under sheld mark MSS.D.D.Par Banbury, and was transferred to Oxfordshire Record Office in the 1980s. The collection has since been augmented by three further accessions: 3951 (March 1995), 5092 and 5203 (January and October 2003 respectively).

The whole collection was recatalogued in October 2007 by Hannah Jones. A conspectus of old and new reference numbers is provided at the back of the printed catalogue.
