Administrative / Biographical History
Barry Dock and Railways was incorporated by an Act of Parliament on 14 August 1884 for the construction of a dock at Barry Island. Starting in 1885, the company constructed 7 miles of track from Cardiff, and the construction of railways of about 26 miles in length from the docks to the Rhondda Valley. Additionally, access was created to junctions with the existing and authorised railways to all the other great mineral-producing districts of south Wales
In 1891 Barry Dock and Railways became Barry Railway Company

Records collected by the donor whilst employed as a student engineer at the Dock Office located in Barry Docks. The records had been identified for destruction during a reorganisation and placed in a skip and were subsequently retrieved by the donor
