Lumsdaine's overriding interest was in the history of the First World War, and he made contact with a large number of people, both in the UK and in Europe, in an attempt to establish precise details of actions. One of his main correspondents was Dr. Alfred Caenepeel, of Ypres. Not all of Lumsdaine's First World War research related to the RMonRE(M).
