Administrative / Biographical History

John Jones Jenkins was born in 1835. He was manager at Hallam's Upper Forest Works in 1858 and in 1859 formed the Beaufort Tinplate Company. He was active in local politics and was Mayor of Swansea on three occasions as well as being MP for Carmarthen. He was made Lord Glantawe in 1904 and raised to the peerage in 1906. Lord Glantawe was active in the promotion and business of the Prince of Wales Dock, Swansea which opened in 1882 and the Swansea and Mumbles Railway.
