The material held are the tapes and transcripts made with retired dockworkers who describe many aspects of their long working lives at the Dockyard. Nine tapes were deposited along with seven transcriptions and an end of award report.

Administrative / Biographical History
This study aimed to provide support for other, parallel, research on aspects of the contemporary labour market of the Isle of Sheppey. It focused on the Naval Dockyard which had dominated the labour market and the social life of Sheerness, the Island's principal town, until its closure in 1960.

By written application to either the Librarian or Deputy Librarian. A letter of introduction may be required and prospective users will be obliged to sign an undertaking outlining the terms and conditions of access to the research materials.

In consultation with academic colleagues, the library special collections acquisitions staff evaluate collections by assessing their relevance to the teaching and research interests of the University.

The collection was acquired and prepared for archiving by Qualidata in 1997 and deposited in the NSPSCA
