Sickert Family Collection

Collection includes framed and unframed artwork by Walter Richard Sickert, Johann Jürgen Sickert, Oswald Adalbert Sickert, Bernhard Sickert, Thérèse Lessore, Jules Lessore, Florence Pash, Roger Fry and others; along with etching and photoengraved plates and paint palettes.
Includes paperwork of letters, council papers, press cuttings, exhibition and auction catalogues, and photographs of, and relating to, the Sickert Family.

Open for consultation by appointment, although a small number of records containing sensitive personal data are closed. Access to the Artwork is closed, but surrogates are available for consultation by appointment.

Photocopying is carried out at the discretion of staff, depending on the condition of the materials and according to the Local History Centre's photocopying policy, which is available on request. No photographs over 50 years old and no material over 100 years old may be copied. Copies of material still in copyright can be supplied for research use only. Written permission must be obtained from the archivist to publish or reproduce any material held in the Local History Centre. It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain any necessary copyright clearance from the copyright holder.

In 1951 The Sickert Trust donated archival papers and ephemera of the Sickert Family to the London Borough of Islington. Other accruals were made throughout the 1960s-1980s, such as papers from Cicely Hey and Florence Pash. Some of the material was previously placed in other areas of the Local History Centre collections but were returned to this collection during recataloguing in 2011. These include Islington Council Correspondence and Papers which were added to the collection (ref.S/SFC/2/2/1).

Small, ongoing accruals to this collection are expected.

The Tate Gallery also holds works and papers by Walter Sickert, and his works can be found in galleries throughout the UK and abroad. Other papers are located in the National Library of Scotland, Manuscript Collections, University of Birmingham: Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections, Royal Academy of Arts and Cambridge University: King's College Archive Centre
