Scope and Content

Francis George Hugh Seymour (1812-1884) was a British Army Officer and conservative politician and served as Lord Chamberlain of the Household under Benjamin Disraeli from 1874-1879. He was the great-grandson of the 1st Marquess of Hertford, as the 4th Marquess had no illegitmate heirs, Francis Seymour inherited the entailed property including Radley Hall, where the 9th Marquess, still resides today. The papers include sale catalogues and some correspondence with the 5th Marquess.
