Scope and Content

This section of the catalogue includes Diana Gould's personal correspondence. The file of correspondence with Marie Rambert includes an exchange in which Diana criticises the way she was treated as a young student. Other notable correspondents include Lady Diana Cooper, the socialite and actress, Edward James, poet, arts patron and friend of the Mitfords, and Grand-Duke Andre Romanov, first cousin to the Russian Tsar; writers including Arnold Haskell the noted ballet critic and writer, Mary Clarke, Editor of Dancing Times and Fernau Hall, retired ballet critic of The Daily Telegraph. There are letters, Christmas cards and notes from dancers including Merle Park, Director of the Royal Ballet School, Shirley Bridge, Nijinksak, Anton Dolin andTamara Karsavina. One file contains correspondence about providing financial assitance to former Ballet Russes dancers, benefactors include Howard Rothschild. The series includes some fan letters, and a poem lampooning early Rambert male dancers.
