Lords Dynevor Records

The seat of the Lords Dynevor is Dynevor Castle, Llandyfeisant, Carmarthenshire. The place-name is also spelt Dinefwr. The 6th Baron Dynevor was Arthur de Cardonnel (1836-1911) who married Selina Lascelles in 1869. Arthur de Cardonnel was succeeded by his only son Walter FitzUryan (1873-1956). Walter was educated at Eton and Christ Church College, Oxford. He was Captain of the Carmarthen Artillery and Lord Lieutenant for Carmarthen 1928-1949. He was a Justice of the Peace 1919-1935 and M.P for Brighton 1910-1911. In 1899 Walter became the Private Secretary for India, a post he held until 1903 when he became private secretary to Baron Selbourne, First Lord of the Admiralty (until 1905). Walter was an assistant in the Ministry of Munitions 1916-1918. In 1898 he married Lady Margaret Child-Villiers, the eldest daughter of the Earl of Jersey. Walter FitzUryan died in 1956 and was succeeded by his eldest son Charles Arthur Uryan. The documents in this archive relate to lands held by the Lords Dynevor at Neath Abbey.
