Administrative / Biographical History
W. E. Axon in The Annals of Manchester (1886), p 288, notes "Mr John Burton Rondeau died, in reduced circumstances, at Manchester, October 10 [1862], aged 37. He was an indefatigable collector of curios and scarce books and tracts, and wrote some biographical papers and communications. Most of his collection passed into the hands of Mr James Crossley, and were dispersed at the sale of the Crossley Library."

This collection was probably lot number 2963 in the Catalogue of the Library of James Crossley...sold by Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge 11 June 1885 and eight following days. It is not known when the collection came into Chetham's Library.
