Scope and Content

PROBATE of the will dated 25th April 1870 and codicil dated 28th Sept. 1871 of the Rev. James Williams of Llanfairynghornwy, clerk, who died 24th March 1872. Under the Settlement made on the occasion of his marriage with Frances Lloyd in 1822 he was given the authority to divide the sum of £3000 assured on his life among his children. One fourth of this £3000 had already been settled on his daughter, Mary Louisa Ramsay, at the time of her marriage. He now divides the remaining three fourths between his four children, Georgina Charlotte Ann Spargo, Mary Louisa Ramsay, Owen Lloyd Williams and John Ingles Williams who is to receive £350 more than the others because of his devotion to his father's comforts. Georgina Ann Spargo is to receive only £200 because he disapproves of her marriage. He gives all plate with the family crest to his eldest son, Owen Lloyd Williams, together with his books and manuscripts. He gives his grand-daughter, Frances Ramsay, his stuffed birds and £5 each to William Williams, pa. clerk of Llanfairynghornwy, William Williams pa. clerk of LLanbabo and William Hughes, his agricultural servant. The residue of the estate is to be divided between his sons who are also appointed executors. Owen Lloyd Williams is the trustee. In the codicil the bequest of £5 to William Hughes is revoked. He gives 10gns. To his respected friend Sarah, wife of Rev. Thomas Lloyd Kyffin in admiration of her conduct as a clergyman's wife and to Emma, the wife of Humphrey Stanley Jones, esq., he gives a mourning ring.
