Administrative / Biographical History

Audrey Brown (nee Pope) was born in Somerset in 1927. She spent part of her childhood at the Southern Provincial Orphanage, Sussex. She completed her nurses training at The Bridgewater Hospital, Somerset in 1948 and was enrolled in the General Nursing Council for England and Wales that year. She qualified as a midwife in 1949 and became a Queen’s Institute District Nurse in 1952. As a district nurse she worked in Somerset, before relocating to South Wales in 1961 where she worked as a nurse and health visitor.
