Administrative / Biographical History

This Arctic whaling voyages to the Davis Strait was unsuccessful, Viewforth with Jane and Middleton was caught in the ice, the crew suffered from scurvy, cold and starvation. On arrival in Stromness in February 1836 fourteen had died and only seven were passed fit for duty from a total of eighty four men
