Fred Vaughan, Solicitor of Cardiff, Papers

Fred Vaughan was born in Newport around 1850. He qualified as a solicitor in 1872 and entered into partnership with R J Cathcart of Dock Street, Newport, however, because of disagreements he withdrew from the partnership in September 1875 and Cathcart died in December that year. Vaughan was still practising at Dock Street in 1884 (Kelly's Directory) but by 1891 he was in partnership with Louis Henry Hornby at 31 West Bute Street, Cardiff. By 1906 the firm of Vaughan and Roche had come into existence at 32 West Bute Street; it continued in business in the docks area of Cardiff until the 1960s when it was amalgamated with other firms. Fred Vaughan died in 1925 aged 74.
