Scope and Content

Building leases of land in Tonyrefail, 1859-1883; deeds and documents relating to minerals at Gilfach-goch in the parish of Ystradyfodwg, 1853-1875; deeds relating to trusteeship of estates on behalf of William Jones of Craigavon and Painswick, Gloucestershire, 1851-1869.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Collenna Estate consisted of premises in the parishes of Llantrisant and Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan, having at its heart the mansion of Collenna, near the present town of Tonyrefail. The estate belonged to the Prichard family, and in 1873 measured 148a 1r 3p, with an annual rental of £210 12s. The Reverend Richard Prichard (owner of the estate during the mod-19th century) was born in Margam in 1811, the son of the Reverend Richard Prichard and Eleanor his wife. Like his father he became an Anglican clergyman, and went on to become Rural Dean and rector of Newbold-on-Stour in Worcestershire. He also acted as trustee of William Jones of Craigavon and Painswick, Gloucestershire.
