John Thomas was born 18 July 1892 at Bryndifyr, Pencarreg to Abel Thomas a farmer and his wife Hannah Thomas (nee Jones). John married Elizabeth Letitia (born 29 March 1898 at Pontycymmer) the daughter of David and Margeret Rees on 8 December 1923 at the parish church of Llanycrwys. John was a school master at Cwm Ifor and Elizabeth a school mistress. The couple had one daughter, Margaret Eirianon Thomas. John wrote poems and entered many local Eisteddfodau, for which he won prizes. John died on 23 May 1990. Elizabeth died 3 July 1985.
