Scope and Content

Deeds relating to Glamorgan and Monmouthshire, 1528-1833, notably to the families of Morgan of Pencreeg, Monmouthshire, 1621-1679, and the Mackworth family of Neath, Glamorgan, 1724-1795.

Administrative / Biographical History

Glen A. Taylor acquired a collection of deeds relating to the Pencreeg estate, Monmouthshire, and to the Mackworth family of Neath. The Pencreeg estate in Monmouthshire was held by Giles Morgan in 1621 and later by Sir William Morgan (d. c.1665) in the mid-seventeenth century. The estate passed to his daughter Ann, who married Sir Herbert Evans of The Gnoll, Neath, Glamorga. They had a daughter, Mary (d. 1696) who married Sir Humphrey Mackworth of Neath (1657-1727). His son, Herbert Mackworth (1687-1765), succeeded to his estates. The Mackworth line continued until Herbert's grandson, Sir Robert Humphrey Mackworth (1764-1794) died without issue.
