Essay one is entitled 'A Note on John Morley' (4 pages) and discusses the scholarship approach, character, political and ideological leanings of Morley as he perceived them to be through his own personal association with the man. Essay two is entitled 'A Defence of the Provincial' (4 pages) and discusses life and politics in the provinces as compared to London, includes references to Manchester, Liverpool, Suffolk, Birmingham, Rochdale, Stratford, Lichfield, Lancashire, Durham, Cornwall, also discusses the English character.
