All patient records containing sensitive and personal data are subject to a 100 year closure period.
Some patient records, including medical registers and registers of discharges, transfers and deaths may use codes, usually a combination of letters and numbers, to describe a patient's occupation and form of mental illness. These symbols were set out by the Mental Treatment Rules 1930. A key to these codes is available on request.
This series includes patient indexes, reception orders, registers of patients and admissions, registers of discharges, patient case books and files, medical registers and journals, daily dairies, registers of restraint and seclusion, registers of deaths, patient statistics, daily returns of patient numbers, and patient guidance.
