The collection comprises of correspondence by Irzar to the polar explorer William Speirs Bruce regarding to the voyage of the Uruguay during the Argentine Relief Expedition, 1903 (Captained by Irzar) which rescued member of the Swedish South Polar Expedition, 1901-1903 (leader Nils Otto Nordenskjld).

Administrative / Biographical History
Julan Irzar was born in Argentina in 1869. He was serving as the Argentine naval attach in London when he was chosen in 1903 to lead an Argentine relief expedition in the corvette Uruguay, sent by the Argentine Navy to search for the Swedish South Polar Expedition, 1901-1903 (leader Nils Otto Nordenskjld). Uruguay rescued the Snow Hill Island and Paulet Island parties, bringing them back safely to Buenos Aires.
Irzar retired from the Argentine Navy in 1932 and died in 1935.
