Scope and Content

Westwell is a village on the western edge of Oxfordshire, just to the south of Burford. In 1924 it was united with the neighbouring parish of Holwell, and in 1979 these parishes were in turn united with Alvescot, Black Bourton and Shilton. All these parishes have now been united with Broadwell, Broughton Poggs, Holwell, Kelmscott, Kencot, Langford and Little Faringdon to form the Shill Valley and Broadshire group of parishes.

The parish records of Westwell were deposited with Oxfordshire Archives in 1987 and 1996, and were assigned the respective Accession Numbers 3060 and 4145. Two appendices at the end of the

catalogue list the contents of each accession, and provide a concordance of old and new references.

Catalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in September 1996.
