Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Tullibardine malt distillery was converted from the derelict Gleneagles Brewery site in Blackford by distillery designer William Delmé-Evans in 1949, with the Tullibardine Distillery Ltd (company number: SC024534) being incorporated. A Tullibardine distillery had previously existed in the area, which had terminated operations by 1837. In 1953 it was sold to Glasgow whisky brokers Brodie Hepburn, and its capacity was increased.
In 1971 Invergordon Distillers acquired Brodie Hepburn along with Tullibardine distillery. Invergordon undertook renovations in 1973-1974, increasing the stills from two to four. In 1993 the Invergordon Distillers Group Ltd was acquired by Whyte & Mackay, who mothballed Tullibardine in 1995, whilst retaining its warehousing. In 2003 it was sold it to a business consortium who sold it on in 2011 to the French based Picard Vins & Spiritueux SA where it is now operates under their subsidiary Terroirs Distillers.
