Administrative / Biographical History

The South East Wales Meeting of the Welsh Baptists was formed in 1833, and initially included English language churches. The majority of English Baptist churches in Glamorgan formed a joint association with Carmarthenshire until 1913, when the association split to form the West Glamorgan and Carmarthen English Baptist Association (including Bridgend and Swansea districts) and the East Glamorgan Association covering Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd districts. The distinction between the Welsh Baptists and English Baptists has become blurred with the decline of the number of Welsh-speaking Baptists in the district. Consequently, a number of former Welsh Baptist chapels now use English as the medium for worship.
