Administrative / Biographical History

As Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, Johnson was responsible for the day-to-day running of the Cathedral and its Chapter. Unlike Manchester, procedures at Canterbury Cathedral had long been established, and, while Johnson took his duties seriously and attempted to make changes for the more efficient and inclusive running of the Chapter, he encountered some hostility in the process. The Dean of the Cathedral was in overall charge of the workmen who maintained the fabric of the buildings, the tenants of the Cathedral and the Choir School.
