Scope and Content

Vale (of White Horse) Monthly Meeting was established in 1668 as a constituent meeting of the Berkshire Quarterly Meeting (QM) and originally comprised the following preparative (worship) meetings:

Abingdon (1668-1790)

Appleton (1668-1697)

Bishopstone (1668-1730)

Challow (1668-18th century)

Faringdon (1668-1790)

East Garston (1687-18th century)

Lambourn Woodlands (1668-1673, 1687-18th century)

Uffington (1668-18th century)

In 1790 it became a consitituent meeting of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire Quarterly Meeting (BOQM) and was subsequently divided between the Witney and Warborough Monthly Meetings; with the Abingdon meeting joining Warborough Monthly Meeting (MM) and Faringdon MM joining with Witney MM.

These records were originally deposited and catalogued as part of the larger BOQM collection but have now been extracted to form their own smaller collection. Catalogued by Karen Garvey, Ruth Imeson and Hannah Jones, January 2009.

A conspectus of old and new reference numbers can be found at the back of the hard-copy catalogue.
