Film Star Scrapbooks

Scope and Content

Scrapbooks of magazine cuttings of famous women film stars of the 1920s and 1930s, including Claudette Colbert, Mae West, Myrna Loy, Joan Crawford, Dolores del Rio, Jean Harlow, Tallulah Bankhead, Anna May Wong, Marlene Dietrich and Carole Lombard. The focus of the compiler was largely on the glamorous clothes, hairstyles and make-up sported by the women, with little apparent interest in the films they appeared in.

Administrative / Biographical History

These scrapbooks were probably created and compiled by an unknown film enthusiast. They were purchased for use as a fashion and costume teaching resource in the late 1970s. They were kept in the library before being transferred to the archive for permanent preservation.
