The SS Philip and James boys school was built 1879 in Leckford Place, next to the infant school which had been erected in 1872. The place was rebuilt in 1896, providing 122 places. Additional buildings in Juxon street were used from 1921 to 1933. Girls went to the Holy Trinity Convent school (St. Denys's), which had moved into the in newly created (1863) parish three years earlier (see S216/2). In 1945 this convent school was handed over to the parish, and one committee managed both parish schools. In 1965 the seniors from SS Philips and James school and St. Denys' school were transferred to the newly opened Cherwell Secondary School, and juniors were taken into the Bishop Kirk Junior mixed school from 1965. The Leckford Road premises were modernized and reopened as an infant school in 1966.
