Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Clifton was situated in the ancient ecclesiastical parish of Eccles. It was in the area of Barton-upon-Irwell poor law Union. It was in Barton-upon-Irwell Rural District from 1894 until 1933 when the Rural District was abolished and most of Clifton township was included in Swinton and Pendlbury Urban District (subsequently the Borough of Swinton and Pendlbury), the remainder of its area being added to Kearsley Urban District.

Custodial History
P4/013/1 was received from Lancashire Record Office in September 1977 following the administrative boundary changes and the creation of Greater Manchester County. The remainder of these records were deposited by the Borough of Swinton and Pendlebury before April 1974, or by the City Treasury of Salford City Council April 1974.
