From 'The Colwyn Bay & Colwyn Visitor' describing the destruction of St. Paul's Church, Colwyn Bay, by fire on the preceding Sunday. The article not only gives details of the fire and the attempts to quench it, but also the public meeting held a few days later in St. Paul's Schoolroom, where the decision was made to rebuild a stone church with seating capacity for 1000. The destroyed church had been erected in 1880, out of wood with an iron casing, on land presented by Lady Erskine and her son Sir Thomas. It was decided that the new church should be substantially larger as Colwyn Bay was growing so quickly, with 2000 visitors the previous summer.
