Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway was a broad gauge railway line in South Wales that was intended to connect Carmarthen with Cardigan. It was a loss-making venture from the time of opening in 1860, and was in receivership for much of its existence. It eventually reached Llandysul in 1864 but was not extended further during its lifetime. The company was amalgamated with the Great Western Railway Company as from 1st July 1881 under the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway Act of 22nd August 1881.
