For a history of the railways in Oxford see vol.4 of the Victoria County History. The London & North Western Railway station at Oxford was erected by Fox, Henderson Ltd in 1851. The building
was erected by Fox, Henderson and constructed with cast-iron bolt-together sections,the roof was to a design borrowed from the Crystal Palace. In 1970 most of the station was demolished apart
from one section which survives as a motorist's tyre and exhaust centre.
