Banks & Co Ltd, a firm of engravers and printers, was situated at 12 George Street, Edinburgh by at least 1929. They later expanded to occupy 53 George Street, this taking place by 1968. Their detailed history is unknown except that they produced beer, wines, spirits and tea labels. By 1971 they were based at the Grange Printing Works, 15A Causwayside, Edinburgh The company became defunct on 6th December 1982.

The material is arranged according to the Scottish Brewing Archive classification scheme used within all SBA collections.

The collection was previously stored with the rest of the Scottish Brewing Archive at Heriot–Watt University. It moved to the University of Glasgow in 1991. Custody of the Scottish Brewing Archive was transferred to Glasgow University Archive Services in 2008.
