Scope and Content

New Hinksey is located about two miles south of central Oxford. Originally part of the Berkshire archdeaconry, it was moved to the Oxford archdeaconry in 1889.

New Hinksey has retained close ties with the neighbouring parish of South Hinksey, and in some cases the records of the two parishes have been mixed. In particular, the two parishes share a baptism register between 1913 and 1932 (see PAR352/1/R2/2). Researchers may also wish to check the South Hinksey parish catalogue (PAR352) for additional information regarding the two parishes.

This collection was originally deposited with Bodleian Library, until being transferred to Oxfordshire Record Office in the mid 1980s. The collection has since been augmented with accession 5372 (March 2005). The collection was recatalogued in December 2006 by Hannah Jones.
