Horley and Hornton are two villages in the far north of Oxfordshire, not far from Banbury. Although they are often written of as a pair, in fact Horley has the main church of the parish, and Hornton has only ever been a chapelry to it (although it seems that in 1864 there were proposals to separate them). Since 1989, Horley and Horton have been united with Hanwell, Shenington and Alkerton.
In cataloguing the parish records of Horley and Hornton, it was decided to list in PAR138 all records with either concerned Horley only or which concerned both villages; records concerning Hornton alone may be found in PAR139.
The records were deposited with Oxfordshire Archives as Acc 2523 in 1986 except for PAR138/16/H1/1, which was originally deposited with the Bodleian Library in 1965. Further records were deposited as part of Acc 6092 in July 2012.
An appendix provides a concordance of old and new references. Recatalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in September 1996 with additions by Alison Smith in April 2015.
