Administrative / Biographical History

The Baraoora Tea Holdings Limited incorporated 13 Nov 1965  to act as a holding company for The Baraoora (Sylhet) Tea Co Limited. Quoted on the London Stock Exchange this ensured that the company's assets outside Bangladesh were protected from possible nationalisation in Bangladesh, later re-registering as 22 Sep 1981Baraoora Tea Holdings Public Listed Company James Finlay acquired a significant stake in the company and made a successful offer to acquire the balance of the shares it did not already own in 1983 , re-incorporating as a private company 18 May 1984 . World Star Planters Ltd acquired the shares c1990s , but the company was later dissolved in 1999.

Baraoora (Sylhet) Tea Company Limited originally incorporated 27 May 1897  later re-registering itself as a private company 1981 . The Hart Family maintained a significant shareholding throughout the first half of the twentieth century. By 1983  James Finlay had also acquired a significant stake in the company. With their associated company PR Buchanan, they acted as agents and secretaries' of the company both in Bangladesh and the UK for much of the time when it remained a public company quoted on the London Stock Exchange.

James Finlay made a successful offer to acquire the balance of the shares it did not already own in 1983 . They maintained the company as a wholly owned subsidiary although for management purposes the business was then run in parallel with that of The Consolidated Tea and Lands Company (Bangladesh) Limited until management changed in 2006 . The company has since been dissolved.
