Scope and Content

At present the collection only includes three scrapbooks containing press cuttings relating to the theatre and its productions.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Empire Theatre was a trading name of the Grand Opera House, York, from 1903 onwards. It specialised in hosting Variety acts. The theatre closed in 1956, with the venue being used for a number of other acts, including bingo and roller skating, before being renovated and reopened as the Grand Opera House.
