Administrative / Biographical History

The Rechabite Friendly Society was formed 1835 in Salford, England. The Society offered policies designed to provide its members with financial support in times of ill health or death. However the member would first have to sign 'the pledge' not to drink alcohol. The name Rechabite is taken from the Old Testament where in the Book of Jeremiah the sons of Rechab and their families were commanded to drink no wine.

The Order held an annual meeting known as a High Moveable Conference
