These papers relate to Holme's activities during the First World War, when she was a member of the Women's Volunteer Reserve (WVR), in which she had the rank of Major, and the Scottish Women's Hospitals (SWH), with whom she went to Serbia and Russia. With fellow members of her SWH unit she was taken prisoner of war in Serbia in the winter of 1915-1916. After 3 months they were sent back to England via Austria, where they were detained for a week. Also included are papers relating to Dr Elsie Inglis, who established the SWH.
