Iowerth Wynn Jones was born in Hirael, Bangor, Caernarfonshire. He served as Junior Clerk and later Assistant Sanitary Inspector in the Health Department for Bangor Corporation, 1932-1939. He then became an Additional Sanitary Inspector with Colwyn Bay Borough Council, 1939-1947, and Senior Sanitary Inspector with Prestatyn Urban District Council, 1947-1954. In 1954 he joined Anglesey County Council and served as County Health Officer until 1962. He then became Chief Officer in the Civil Defence Department, 1962-1968, and Inspector and Oil Pollution Officer in the Weights and Measures Department, 1968-1974. He was appointed Health Officer for Arfon Borough Council following local government reorganization in 1974, until he retired in 1977.
