Scope and Content

Created under the Local Government Act 1894 comprising parishes from Witney Rural Sanitary Authority and that part of the Faringdon Rural Sanitary Authority which was in Oxfordshire.

Further boundary changes were implemented under the Oxfordshire Review Order 1932 and later orders; please see F A Youngs 'Guide to the Local Administrative Units of England' for a comprehensive list of parishes and boundary changes

Responsibilities included public health, housing, rating, planning, building regulations, water supplies, sewerage, some roads, and (during World War Two) evacuation

The collection includes records of Witney Rural Sanitary Authority

The collection was originally catalogued as Witney RDC (accession numbers 916, 1572, 1609, 1616, 1620, 1622)
