Scope and Content

Collection of material documenting the work of American choreographer Millicent Hodson (b.1945) and her husband the art historian, Kenneth Archer (b.1943), who supervises the reconstruction of the designs, who operate under the name of Ballets Old and New.

The collection, which has been built up over time, includes articles, programmes, press material, copy drawings relating to individual projects and productions. The Hodson Archer team have mounted ballets based on those by George Balanchine, Jean Borlin and Vaslav Nijinsky such as le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), Jeux, Til Eulenspiegel. There is information on Hodson's other creations, including her collaboration with Leslie Anne Sayers on Pas d'Acier, and exhibitions and some information on Archer and Nicolas Roerich.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1987 Millicent Hodson and Kenneth Archer completed the reconstruction of Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring) for the Joffrey Ballet and thereafter they have been working on ballets from the Ballets Russes and Ballets Suedois repertoire as well as evocations of Isadora Duncan for Carla Fracci and original ballets. Hodson and Archer document their work in considerable detail.
